Abstract

This study aims to reduce student habits by applying classroom management strategies to optimize student abilities and become better learners. Students who engage in productive classroom activities, focusing on learning and applying what they have learned, can reduce these habits.
Bad classroom habits, such as sleeping and cell phone use during the learning process, are common. In educational management, not only the material presented should be addressed, but also how to manage the classroom to be productive for learning. This study used a descriptive quantitative approach supported by observations and interviews. The focus was on identifying teachers' classroom management strategies and student behavior in the classroom (sleeping and cell phone use).
Based on the research, student habits at school were: 46.6% reported having slept in class, 29.1% rarely slept in class, 8.7% often slept in class, and 1.9% very often slept in class. The average sleep time during class was 65%, and 20% of students slept for less than 3 minutes. Teachers who apply active methods (discussions, projects, interactive quizzes) are proven to be able to reduce sleeping behavior by up to 39.8%, Teachers who use ice breaking influence 35% of students. In class control itself, mobile teachers (walking around) while teaching, are able to reduce the use of cellphones and sleeping in class, which can be seen from the diagram below, which can explain that with teachers walking around, students who use cellphones are 27.2%, students who sleep in class experience a 21.4% reduction in the desire to sleep in learning and students can change other factors
