Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of innovative approaches in teaching Islamic Religious Education (PAI) for Generation Z at MTs Daarussalaam Sukabumi and to identify their impact on students’ engagement and understanding. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The participants consisted of PAI teachers and students of MTs Daarussalaam Sukabumi who belong to Generation Z. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers, and document analysis of lesson plans and students’ project outputs. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the integration of digital media, the use of social media, gamification strategies, and Project-Based Learning significantly enhance students’ motivation, active participation, and comprehension of PAI materials. The use of instructional videos, interactive quiz applications, and collaborative projects encourages students to construct knowledge actively and connect Islamic teachings with their daily lives. These approaches also strengthen students’ critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity skills. The study recommends that PAI educators continuously develop technology-based learning strategies aligned with the characteristics of Generation Z, accompanied by proper digital literacy guidance to ensure that learning remains grounded in Islamic values.
